Our Top 10 Things you must do… in the Peak District National Park

Here is our pick for the top ten things to do when you visit The Peak District National Park and stay at Jack’s Cottage. We love getting out for a good walk and an ice cream or a coffee and cake. If you are coming to the Peak District you are definitely going to want to check out these activities.

Tagg Lane Dairy (a must)

The best ice cream in the Peak District if not the UK. You even have to que in the afternoon. Its freshly made every day and they run out. We love ice cream too much. Combine this with a walk or cycle ride on the Tissington Trail (park at Parsley Hay) and a meal at The Royal Oak Pub, Hurdlow, the pies are excellent.

Chatsworth

This is one of the most well know stately homes in the country. It can get expensive and they charge for parkin so you can park at Baslow and walk in. A picnic in the grounds is a nice way to spend the day and free if you walk in. There are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants there too.

Walk the Edge

Jack’s Cottage sits just underneath Froggatt and Curbar Edge, the views are amazing and you can walk from here. There is a great coffee and cake van at the top called Jolly’s. Owned by a friend she hand makes all the cakes. Mmmmmmmmm.

Mam Tor

Simply stunning. You can park nearly at the top and the views are breath taking or walk up from Edale or Castleton.

Haddon Hall

Another great stately home to explore.

Bakewell

A lovely market town, the market is on a Monday. Great for a wander round and definitely visit the Real Bakewell Pudding Shop.

The Plague Village aka Eyam

Lots of walks over the other side of the valley, walkable from here or drive. Lots of nice coffee shops and a few nice places to eat.

Thornbridge Hall

A great stately home with lovely garden, on the Monsal trail with free parking. A great place to start a bike ride or walk from. It has a great coffee shop, The sausage rolls are amazing.

Hassop Station and the Monsal Trail

Another great coffee shop, cycle hire and paid parking. A great place to explore the Monsal Trail. The Monsal Trail has lots of Tunnels to cycle or walk through and lots of footpaths connecting to it.

And lets not forget stay at the wonderful Jack’s Cottage, Curbar, which is a great place to explore from. Check our availability.
